CRISIS CORE FINAL FANTASY VII (GAMEPLAY)
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- is both an action and turn-based RPG, with a stream of fast turns creating the illusion of real-time combat. Like the Square and Disney hybrid series Kingdom Hearts, the player chooses actions from a menu, featuring attack, magic, special attack, and item choices. The game's key feature is the Digital Mind Wave (DMW) — a slot machine-like screen in the upper left-hand corner. Images and numbers continuously scroll in each of the three slots consuming Soldier Points (SP). Combinations of sevens lead to special status effects, while having identical characters in the left and right slot opens up the modulating phase. Certain combinations of characters and numbers in modulating phase will allow the player to level up Zack, power up Materia, or perform special moves and summons.
Materia is part of the magic and ability system, like in Final Fantasy VII, but it's slightly different. Summon Materia are no longer under the player's control, and instead, are added to the DMW. When the DMW slots switch to the summoning scene one of the various Summon Materia are selected and performed. Main summon sequences are skippable FMVs. This does not apply to Chocobo Mode summons.

If you are a fan of Final Fantasy 7, you'll love Crisis Core. It takes place before the events of FF7, giving you the background story of the different characters. It has a new style of gameplay, no longer turn-based but still uses turn meters so it has a bit of both styles. You now have free motion during combat, allowing for different strategies. A very good, mission-based RPG with a new style of slot machine style meter that grants bonuses and summons during battle. It is one of the best PSP games and for fans of FF7 it's like going back home.

AN absolutely amazing game.
It has a novel leveling system which while annoying can be fun to play with.
If you want to max everything your level doesn't end up mattering anyway.
The controls are tight and fun to play with as well.
Although if you plan on 100% the game like I did, prepare to dump over 80 hours into the game, with more than half of it being repeating the same fights with slightly higher level enemy with the same attack pattern.
As missions rapidly become boring.

The story mode on the other hand is extremely tight, with very little down time. Any time you want to spend training or playing Crisis Core just to fight is when you do missions.
